Orange County Photographer | Mark Jordan

professional

Mark Jordan’s inspiring and imaginative portraits have expressed the character of family life throughout America for over three decades. Whether you come across Mark’s work on the walls and halls of homes and museums, or amid the pages of People Magazine, once you discover his striking, yet poetic portraits, you’ll want to return time and time again.

As a Master Photographer, a Master Craftsman, as well as a member of the American Society of Photographers, Mark Jordan is an internationally celebrated portrait artist. Though Mark is a versatile photographer by any standard, his passion and virtuosity are best illustrated in the spirited art of photographing people.

Along the way, Mark has amassed an imposing trove of national and international recognitions. His award winning portraits are distinguished by their superior craftsmanship, rich and vibrant tonalities, lifelike dimension and, most importantly, an astonishing display of authentic expressions. His portraits are alive, honest, and natural.

Mark Jordan is one of a scattering of portrait artists, worldwide, who have been inducted as a permanent exhibitor into the preeminent International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum. Currently, Mark’s photographic reproduction of Georges Seurat’s “Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte” is on display in the IHOF Museum. Mark’s adaptation of the French Impressionist’s masterpiece is snuggled amiably between the photographic luminaries of Edward Steichen and the incomparable, Ansel Adams.

Coupled with being named Orange County Photographer of the Year, Mark was awarded Professional Photographers of America’s highest honor, the Loan Collection Award. What makes Mark’s achievement all the more remarkable is that the award was bestowed upon him an astonishing eleven times – all in the span of four consecutive years. Mark then took an extended sabbatical to raise a family and focus singularly on his portrait studio.

Besides garnering honors from Professional Photographers of America, Professional Photographers of Norway and Germany have also recognized Mark’s advancements to the art of fine portraiture. Other respected establishments such as EPCOT Center (three time honoree in the “The World’s Greatest Photographers” exhibit), Kodak, Fuji, and Winona International School of Photography, have also recognized Mark’s contribution to the photographic arts.

Regardless of the enumerable awards Mark Jordan has collected, none of his accomplishments would matter to him, nor his loyal following, were it not for the fact that every single award has come entirely from actual portrait commissions. While it is standard practice for photographers to devise special photographs solely for the penetrating eye of art critics, Mark owes his success wholly to the portrait creations crafted from the everyday portrait requests of his clients. As Mark tells us, ‘My success began with simple portrait inquiries and flourishes today because of those who honor me with their trust.’

family – personal note

I married a vivacious, effervescent woman whom I met in 1985 while teaching 4th Grade for Irvine Unified. Kari was assigned to my classroom as a student teacher (it’s not a saucy as it sounds). We were married in 1989 and managed to create three independent children (now nearly grown). Kari, as you may have noticed, is not only my wife, but the Studio Manager. Kari also serves as the studio’s “master puppeteer” and is my right hand woman at family/children portraits. When we’re not creating studio photography we can be found around town at local eateries, on the greens, at the movies, Yogurtland, and Saddleback Church.
